More than 100,000 people have taken refuge outside the Fukushima nuclear accident in Japan

The National Liaison Conference of the Nuclear Power Victims Litigation Group said that victims of refuge in various places affected by the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident had filed about 30 class actions in Japan, and the number of plaintiffs exceeded 10,000. There are 21 plaintiff groups in the liaison association with more than 9,700 members. The policy of the liaison meeting is that the plaintiff groups participate in the trials of other groups in the courts, and by making a statement to the court for a fair trial, the courts are encouraged to make judgments in favor of the victims. At the same time, the Liaison Association, as the representative of each defendant group, is fully responsible for negotiating with the Japanese government to encourage the government to formulate long-term relief policies such as providing free housing for victims.

 

Because the disaster situation of the victims in the accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant was different, the plaintiffs’ claims against the Japanese government and the Tokyo Electric Power Company were different. The establishment of the "National Liaison Conference of the Nuclear Power Victims Litigation Corps" aims to strengthen the coordination of the various plaintiff groups and take a consistent position to claim compensation from the Japanese government and Tokyo Electric Power Company.

 

The dispute never stops

 

On March 11 this year, the sixth year after the accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant will be ushered in. In the past five years, residents of Fukushima Prefecture, where the Fukushima nuclear power plant is located, have been involved in the accident compensation and nuclear pollution elimination operations, home reconstruction, and the Japanese government. The dispute between Tokyo Electric Power Company has not stopped.

 

In terms of accident compensation, the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident has caused a maximum of 140,000 people to be forced to transfer. In order to solve the accident compensation problem, the Japanese government established the “Nuclear Accident Compensation Dispute Review Meeting” in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as a middleman between Dongdian and the victims. Formulate a compensation policy. However, because the disaster identification and compensation standards formulated by the review meeting did not fully recognize the harmfulness of the nuclear accident and the needs of the victims, cases involving litigation for dissatisfaction occurred.

 

In addition, for the elimination of nuclear pollution, due to serious shortages of funds, manpower and pollutant storage sites, the progress has been very slow, and some areas that have completed decontamination operations have refused to return because of concerns about nuclear pollution. Affected by this, there are still more than 100,000 people in Fukushima Prefecture who have taken refuge in other places.
